Agents of Change in the existing Kapiti housing market,
creating viable alternatives for affordable housing of
Seniors in Central Kapiti
Who are we - what are we trying to do for Seniors in Central Kapiti ?
Homes for Good Trust was inaugurated in October 2024 and already has held a number of Public Meetings with about 100 people coming to tell us of their housing issues in this exceedingly difficult market. In addition we have joined the peak body - Community Housing Aotearoa so we can work with them as a voice to Council and the Government about what needs to change- FAST, in order that our older people can have safe, secure, suitable housing. In accordance with our Strategic Plan for the next 3 years ,which you can read below, we have applied to become a Registered Charity.
We were assisted with a small grant from KCDC's Housing Seed Fund which has enabled us to start delivering services to our clients, that is solely focused on the housing needs of Seniors in Central Kapiti. This area has a high proportion of Seniors in the population and many of them are finding themselves in acute housing difficulty because of many life factors that have brought them to this point.
On our constantly changing website you can see current research reports appertaining to housing issues, sections on Affordable Rentals, Homesharing experiences and related initiatives, "Granny Flat" opportunities in the District as well as trialing a place for people over 65 to safely and anonymously advertise for urgent accommodation needs, and for those offering possible solutions. We will also post surveys into relevant topics like Holiday Homes in Central Kapiti, or the views of local landlords, to see if they could offer any answer to our acute housing needs.
We value your input or questions about any of the topics covered on our website. Contact Us
Please read our Strategic Plan below and let us know if you need any more information
